Our Anniversary Staycation

A portion of this trip was provided at a discount, but all opinions expressed here are my own

On April 9th, Colby and I celebrated our 6th year wedding anniversary. I decided to do something I had never done for Colby and that was surprise him with a mini trip, which really was a staycation since we didn’t go too far out of town. We left Saturday morning and headed south of Dallas to Cedar Hill Park, where we went hiking for 8 miles. Colby is always wanting to explore the surrounding areas, but very rarely does that happen, so I thought it would be something he liked, especially since we both love to be outdoors. There were three main options of distances to go, but we chose the 8-mile loop. The area we hiked along was absolutely gorgeous and was a good reminder that we don’t have to go far from to see God’s beauty!

Anniversary Staycation

After hiking we stopped at a little shopping center before heading to a small town in Texas called Waxahachie. We were pleasantly surprised as we were greeted with such a quaint little town. We checked into our Bed and Breakfast, The English Merchant’s InnMary and Howard Baskin are the owners of this home, built in 1915 by an English cotton merchant. It’s obvious that Mary Baskin has a lot of experience in interior design as it was so well decorated. The first floor alone could have been a museumI fell in love with this place after talking to Howard Baskin and finding out he and his wife had raised their kids in this home, moved away, and then moved back in and now it’s a bed and breakfast. How neat is that? Our room was upstairs and was absolutely massive. Seriously, check out these pictures because mine below don’t even do it justice.  In addition to owning the B&B, Mary also leads trips overseas and takes people antiquing. I think I need her job!

After showering and getting ready for the day we stopped by a restaurant to have an appetizer before I surprised Colby with something else: couple pictures. Yay! Maybe that wasn’t his favorite surprise, but he is always a sport, despite the fact that he would be fine never taking another picture again. We met a local photographer, Rachel Chism, who was just the sweetest and easiest going. She got pictures of us at a few places around town. See how beautiful the area is?

After finishing with the photos we headed to dinner and then back to our b&b. The next morning we were greeted with an amazing breakfast before we packed our things. We went to a trail that was just behind the b&b and again, it was so gorgeous! After leaving town we decided to head to Ennis because we heard there was a bluebonnet festival going on there, which included live music and an arts and crafts show. I had never seen so many bluebonnets before! They were so pretty.

Anniversary Staycation

On the way back home, we made another stop at a local restaurant and that concluded what I think is our first staycation. Have you been on a staycation before?
